Facts About the Tibetan Terrier

I described to you the Australian terrier a couple of posts ago and now here is another terrier dog breed that is not native of the Great Britain and Ireland but they are just called for namesake. It is called the Tibetan terrier. Now if you do not know where Tibet is, then it is located in the Himalayas. Yep, it is near Mount Everest, the tallest mountain in the world. But I will not talk about Tibet or the Mount Everest. Here are some brief facts about the Tibetan terrier.

The Tibetan terrier is included in the list of ancient breeds of dogs. There are several other dog breeds that have originated from Tibet apart from the Tibetan terrier, including the Shih-Tzu, the Tibetan Spaniel, and the Lhasa Apso. Although it is called the Tibetan terrier, it is not really one of the terrier dog breeds. Tibetan terriers have been with the Tibetan Monks for more than 2,000 years now for they believe that the dog brings good luck to them. The first Tibetan terrier that came out of Tibet was given as a gift by a monk to a woman named Dr. A.R.H. Greig. She was given by a patient and another one from the Dali Lama as a symbol of his gratitude for the works she had done.

When it comes to their appearance, Tibetan terrier medium sized well proportioned dog even though they are a bit squared when it comes to their body frames. Usually they have large dark brown eyes and black nose. Their coat can come in all colors and patterns. They can live for up to 15 years.
